Missed calls leak revenue every night
A single missed new-patient call can cost $300–$3,000+ in lifetime value — more for implant, ortho, and cosmetic inquiries.
Halden is a 24/7 dental front-desk assistant that picks up after-hours and overflow calls, qualifies new patients, books them straight into your schedule, escalates real emergencies, and sends your team a clean morning summary. No voicemail. No leakage.
Built for the systems your practice already runs on
The problem
The average dental practice misses 25–40% of inbound calls, and most never call back the same day. After 6 PM, weekends, and lunch, the line goes to voicemail — and patients with toothaches don’t leave one.
A single missed new-patient call can cost $300–$3,000+ in lifetime value — more for implant, ortho, and cosmetic inquiries.
Toothache and emergency callers shop the next listing. The practice that picks up wins the patient.
Three calls ring at once during check-in. The third gets dropped. The third was probably a new patient.
An off-the-shelf bot can’t triage an avulsed tooth, can’t pre-screen implant candidates, and won’t book directly into your schedule.
How Halden works
One operational loop, tuned to dental call patterns. We don’t replace your team — we extend it to the hours and overflow they can’t cover.
Calls forward to Halden after-hours, on overflow, or 24/7 — your choice. A warm, dental-tuned voice picks up. Never a voicemail.
New or existing? Insurance, reason for visit, chief complaint, preferred time, contact info — captured in natural conversation.
Open Dental native. Dentrix and Eaglesoft via supported integration paths. Real operatory slots, real provider rules, real appointment types.
Dental trauma, swelling with fever, post-op bleeding — Halden pages your on-call doctor by SMS in under 60 seconds.
Your team opens a single digest at 7 AM: bookings made, callbacks needed, emergencies handled, and recordings of every call.
What’s included
Nights, weekends, holidays, lunch breaks. Halden never sleeps and never sounds tired.
When your front desk is on another line, the next caller still gets a real conversation — not a queue.
Open Dental native via the FHIR/DDP bridge. Dentrix & Eaglesoft supported through our integration partners.
Your services, providers, insurance rules, fee notes, intake forms, and tone — encoded in a living script.
Avulsion, abscess, post-op complications, uncontrolled bleeding — routed by clinical protocol you approve.
Confirmations, intake links, directions, recall nudges — sent the moment a call ends, while intent is hot.
Patients who ask for a person are transferred to your team or your live answering partner — with context, not from scratch.
Native bilingual handling on the same line. Patients pick their language, transcripts translate automatically.
Booked-call rate, leakage saved, emergency response time, no-show prevention — in a dashboard, not a spreadsheet.
Signed BAA, PHI-minimizing prompts, encrypted storage, role-based access, configurable retention windows.
ROI estimator
Adjust the inputs to match your practice. We assume a conservative 30% of missed callers would have converted to booked patients if someone had answered — the rest call a competitor.

How Halden compares
A practical comparison against the three other options a dentist actually considers: a generic AI receptionist, a traditional answering service, and the status quo (voicemail).
For your kind of practice
Halden picks up after-hours emergency lines in under 2 rings, triages by clinical severity, pages your on-call doctor, and books a same-day slot when one exists.
Pre-screens candidacy questions, captures CBCT history, surfaces budget signal, and schedules the consult while intent is fresh — not three follow-ups later.
Books consultations for kids, teens, and adult clear-aligner shoppers. Handles insurance and financing FAQs without escalating every call to your TC.
We started with Open Dental on purpose. Real operatory slots, provider rules, appointment types, and recall lists — not a screen-scrape, not a portal hack.
One dashboard across locations. Routing rules per office. Pooled minutes. A standardized brand voice that still respects each location’s hours and providers.
Implementation
Founder-led setup. We don’t hand you a portal and disappear — we run the build with you, listen to calls in week one, and tune the script before you commit.
30-minute working session: phone tree, current voicemail, top 20 FAQs, services, fee notes, insurance boundaries, emergency protocol.
Dental-tuned script written for your practice. PMS connection configured. Operatory rules and provider availability mirrored.
You and your team call Halden as a new patient, an emergency, and an existing patient. We tune voice, tone, and edge cases live.
After-hours forwarding flipped on. Halden answers tonight. Morning summary lands at 7 AM tomorrow.
Full report: calls answered, patients booked, leakage saved, transcripts of every call. Continue, adjust, or walk away — your call.
FAQ
Yes. We sign a Business Associate Agreement before any patient call is routed. Halden is built on infrastructure with BAAs in place across the stack — voice, transcription, model inference, and storage. Prompts are designed to minimize PHI; sensitive data is encrypted at rest and in transit, with role-based access and configurable retention windows.
Yes — clearly and politely at the start of every call. We never impersonate a human. The disclosure language is short, friendly, and reviewed with you before launch. Patients who prefer a human are warm-transferred or get a callback queued for your team.
Halden listens for it. Any phrase like “can I talk to a real person” triggers an immediate warm handoff — either a live transfer to your team during hours, a callback ticketed for the morning, or routing to your live answering partner if you have one. You decide the rules.
Open Dental is our first-class integration — real operatory slots, provider rules, and appointment types. Dentrix and Eaglesoft are supported via integration partners (we’ll explain the path on the audit call). Curve and Denticon are roadmap. If your PMS isn’t supported yet, Halden still books via Google Calendar or a shared scheduler so the patient is captured today.
We use modern voice models tuned for dental conversation pacing and clinical vocabulary. On the pilot report we send every call recording so you can hear for yourself — no cherry-picking. In the Dental Care Alliance case study reported by Resonate, 64% of bookings happened fully through the AI; patients literally asked to give the assistant a pay raise. Your mileage will vary, but the bar is real.
7 calendar days for after-hours-only pilots. 10–14 days when we’re wiring direct PMS booking. We do not promise “live in an hour” — doing this well requires sitting with your script, your insurance rules, and your emergency protocol. We’d rather earn the second month than launch a bad agent.
Overages are published on each plan and billed per answered minute — not per ring, not per call attempt. We send a usage alert at 75%, 90%, and 100%, and we’ll proactively recommend a plan change if your traffic is consistently above your tier. No surprise invoices.
Yes — and most practices start exactly this way. You forward to Halden after 5 PM, weekends, holidays, and lunch. Your front desk keeps daytime calls. Once you see the pilot report, many practices choose to add overflow handling during business hours, but it’s never required.
Three things: (1) we book directly into Open Dental with real operatory and provider rules, not a generic calendar; (2) our scripts are dental-tuned — emergency triage, implant qualifying, ortho consults — not retrofitted from a hair salon template; (3) we’re a managed service with a founder on the build, not a self-serve portal with a chat widget. We’re slower to scale and proud of it.
